If your water bill seems higher than normal, you may have a leak. In some cases, you can fix the leak yourself, but for bigger jobs a visit from the plumber will be necessary. Please look at our Water Line Responsibility diagram if you are unsure if the leak is your responsibility to fix or Piedmont 's.

The best method of finding out if you have a leak is to use your water meter.

  1. Turn off any running water in the house and make sure no one uses water while you conduct this test (about 30 minutes).
  2. Go to your water meter and write down the reading.
  3. Wait 30 minutes and re-check the meter. If the reading has changed, you have a leak.
***Note on malfunctioning meters - a malfunctioning meter will either run backwards or will be stuck. It will not give you a higher usage amount. If you think your meter may be malfunctioning, please call us at 800-248-7689
